BASIC BECHAMEL SAUCE






The easiest bechamel or white sauce you will ever make! Once you make it this way, you will never go to any other method of making this bechamel sauce. This easy bechamel sauce is a combo of flour, butter, milk which stirred together into a rich and creamy and classic white sauce. The method here is quick and easy, fast and foolproof, yet creates classic results.





Ingredients:





  • Butter 50 gm
  • Plain flour 50 gm
  • Milk 500 ml
  • Onion (halved) 1
  • Bay leaf 1
  • Cloves 2
  • Salt & Freshly ground pepper according to taste




Method:





  • Gently bring milk to the boil in a sauce pan with 1 halved onion, studded with 1 bay leaf and 2 cloves. Turn off the heat and leave to infuse for 20 mins.
  • Melt butter in another saucepan, then add plain flour. Stir continuously until a paste forms, The paste must be perfectly smooth and white (This is called a roux).Continue cooking for 2 minutes.
  • Remove the onion, bay and cloves from the milk with a slotted spoon and discard. Add the infused milk to the roux gradually, stirring as you go, until you get a smooth sauce. Cook for 5-10 mins, stirring continuously, until the sauce has thickened.
  • Season to taste.
